Lerners proudly sponsored Hearts in Action, an inaugural community event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for women’s cardiac care at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC).
Held on February 13, the event brought together more than 150 attendees for a morning of conversation, education, and celebration—all in recognition of Wear Red Canada, a national initiative highlighting the unique ways heart disease affects women.
Although cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of preventable death among women in Canada, its symptoms are often misunderstood or overlooked. Hearts in Action was created to help address this gap through storytelling, expert insight, and community engagement.
This year’s theme, Women’s Heart Health Across Generations, explored how heart health evolves from early prevention to diagnosis, treatment, and long‑term care. A panel of experts shared practical guidance and personal reflections on the realities of women’s cardiovascular health.
A key message for many attendees was that women who experience pregnancy‑related complications face a much higher likelihood of serious heart issues later in life, with nearly one in three at risk of a major cardiac event within twenty years.
The success of the inaugural event reflects the power of community collaboration. “Hearts in Action is a testament to what can happen when you turn an idea into action and amplify voices with lived experience. I am incredibly proud of what our committee accomplished,” said Hilary Leitch, partner and committee member.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, sponsors, speakers, and volunteers, Hearts in Action sold out and raised more than $20,000—funds that will support cardiac care at LHSC through the London Health Sciences Foundation.
