Matthew McGuckin

Matthew “Matt” McGuckin works in the Commercial Litigation group at Lerners in its Toronto office. His diverse litigation and dispute resolution practice focuses primarily on construction law.  However, Matt also represents clients in contractual and business disputes, as well as and matters relating to municipal law.

Drawing on previous experience supervising major road construction projects, Matt helps clients navigate the multitude of legal challenges they face on their own construction projects.

He works hard to understand their needs and offers practical advice that helps them resolve their issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.

“I understand what it looks like day-to-day on a construction site, and I understand the importance of protecting project margins,” explains Matt.

Matt takes a collaborative approach as an advocate, ensuring the client is comfortable with what is presented before the court, tribunal, or adjudicative body.

“As a former hockey player,” he says, “I know the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the name on the back. When I'm acting for a client, I put them first, and I’m second.”

Away from the office, Matt is an active outdoorsman and avid sports fan. Other interests include fitness, travel, dogs, and fiction.
