PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Experience
People who have suffered a serious personal injury or loss need a lawyer who is experienced and knowledgeable, but also approachable and sympathetic. Graham’s years of trial work within the insurance industry and for individuals has equipped Graham with the skills to get good results for clients.
Graham is a trial lawyer with almost three decades of courtroom experience, and is committed to getting results for his clients.
Having spent years acting for large insurance companies, Graham also acts now for individual claimants and their families. Graham’s experience “on both sides of the fence” gives him the perspective and tools required to get claims resolved.
Graham has acquired a broad range of civil, criminal, and quasi-criminal trial experience, and now restricts his practice primarily to civil litigation. In 2009, Graham was certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Civil Litigation – the Law Society’s Certified Specialist Program recognizes lawyers who have met established standards of experience and knowledge requirements in one or more designated areas and have maintained exemplary standards of professional practice. Graham has acted for clients who have had cases in all levels of the Ontario Courts and in the Supreme Court of Canada. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1993, Graham practised in northern Ontario for 6 years before moving south, where he was a partner at one of Kitchener's larger law firms for many years before launching his own specialized litigation practice in Kitchener's downtown Heritage District and finally joining Lerners LLP as a partner when it expanded to the Waterloo Region in late 2020.
Graham's litigation and insurance experience includes automobile, property and casualty, municipal liability, professional liability, fire loss, occupiers' and employers' liability, and commercial litigation. Graham has represented companies and individuals in complex litigation matters and has had many reported cases. He often represents clients at civil mediations. Graham's current practice is focussed on serious and catastrophic injury, fatalities, and insurance litigation including large-loss municipal liability work.
Graham is a trained mediator and taught Canadian Legal Procedure at the Political Science Department at the University of Waterloo for many years as a sessional lecturer.
Long Way Round, Down and Up (without the support crew): Over the years, Graham has travelled much of the world by motorcycle and has a special interest in insurance law as it applies to motorcyclists.
