Community Leadership

  • Acting Adjunct Professor, Family Law Externship Program, Western Law (2024-present) - Jordan teaches this program, now for the second year running. Following his first year, he was invited to expand the program from a January term course into a full semester course. In addition to teaching and grading, this gives Jordan an opportunity to connect with members of the London bench and bar, who take students for “shadowing” experiences.

  • Joint Community Liaison and Resource Committee - Jordan joined this committee by judicial invitation in 2024, in which several local bar members meet with the chief administrative judge of the family law court in London, as well as with members of London police, Children’s Aid Society, Merrymount Family Support & Crisis Centre, and other key players in the London family law sector. Following the invitation, his three-year appointment was granted by Chief Justice Morawetz.

Empathy from Experience

Jordan McKie works out of the London office as a partner in the Family Law group. He has significant experience in litigation with a strong foundation in alternative dispute resolution including negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.

Although primarily a family lawyer, Jordan serves in a unique role at Lerners as the person responsible for dependant support claims (claims made against the estates of deceased people by dependants), a nexus between family law and estate law. He also does appellate work and very interested in matters related to the Succession Law Reform Act.

He is a confident, direct, and pragmatic lawyer who focuses on achieving the best outcomes for

his clients. That includes prepping them well in advance for the possibility of going to trial, a situation Jordan welcomes if necessary.

Having gone through the family law system himself, Jordan knows from experience the pain and stress his clients endure. His role is to show empathy, and clarify at each step in the proceeding what happens next, what they can expect from him, and what's at stake.

Environmental stewardship plays a large part in Jordan’s life, and he sits on the firm’s Environment Sustainability Committee, which adheres to the responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices.

He also sat on the AI subcommittee, and keeps up to date with current technology, large language models, and how they can be applied to the practice of law.

Jordan adheres to the philosophy of The Art of War by Sun Tzu: “Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.”

Active outside of his practice, Jordan is an adjunct professor at Western Law and works with legal professionals in the judiciary to find placements for law students and the next generation of lawyers.
