Advancing Access to Justice

Sandev Purewal is a Partner at Lerners practicing in the areas of Personal Injury, Insurance Litigation, Product Liability and Privacy Law. With more than 24 years of legal experience, Sandev has appeared as counsel before the Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Court of Appeal, Financial Services Commission of Ontario, License Appeal Tribunal, and the Tax Court of Canada. He is certified as a Specialist in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Ontario and served as president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association for the 2024/25 term. He has been a member of the OTLA Board of Directors since 2015.

As a personal injury litigation lawyer, Sandev handles serious personal injury and fatality cases, disability claims, and insurance disputes. Sandev was Past-President (2010-2013) and Director (2007-2009) of the Brain Injury Association of Peel & Halton (BIAPH). Explaining his approach to his personal injury practice, Sandev says, “We need to consider the clients’ medical, psychological, and vocational issues. I work at the intersection of law, medicine, and rehabilitation to help my clients recover and live their best life.”

Sandev advises businesses and other organizations on privacy law issues including managing privacy breaches, privacy complaints, and access to information requests. Sandev also serves on the Executive of the Ontario Bar Association’s Privacy & Access to Information Law Section since 2024. He is also Co-Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s 2025 Privacy Law Summit.

Sandev’s education law practice focuses on civil litigation, school board liability, and litigation risk management. He is also an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) and has a B.Ed from York University in 1996.

Sandev also leads the Helmets on Kids community project in Peel Region, which provides safety education and free bicycle helmets to children in need. Since 2007, the program has delivered over 10,000 free helmets to children in Peel. Sandev is a first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon-Do and former soccer player, captain, and coach.
