Legal Expertise with a Business Perspective

Barbara Blew is a partner at Lerners with more than 25 years’ experience advising healthcare professionals (including dentists, physicians, pharmacists, veterinarians, optometrists, physiotherapists, and chiropractors) and other business owners. She works closely with clients, accountants and other advisors to best serve her clients. Barbara also has a degree from the Ivey Business School which causes her to review matters from both a legal perspective and business perspective.

Barbara has provided legal advice on the sale and purchase of hundreds of professional practices, pharmacies and businesses. She also provides legal advice regarding day-to-day matters associated with operating a business and has incorporated over 1,500 corporations for clients. Barbara

counsels her clients on cost-sharing agreements, associate agreements, partnership agreements, and shareholder agreements. She also provides guidance on employment matters and leasing matters.

In working with clients, Barbara prioritizes efficiency and responsiveness. Barbara shares the following comments regarding her work and relationships with clients: “I think one of my greatest strengths is that I am responsive to clients and get things done quickly.

“Having acted on hundreds of purchase and sale transactions, I can draw from a wide knowledge base to handle any issues that may arise. My clients appreciate that I act as a guide in the process, making sure clients know what to expect and all of the

steps they need to consider to ensure a smooth transaction.

“I also enjoy helping clients improve their legal processes and structures and working with corporate accountants to implement tax-savings strategies for my clients.”

Barbara also prepares Wills, Power of Attorney documents and trust agreements for clients. “My experience in business law gives me a decided advantage in preparing estate plans and Wills (both Personal and Corporate Wills) for professionals and business owners,” she explains.

Away from the office, Barbara enjoys downhill skiing, tennis, and road biking.
