WE ACKNOWLEDGE

The land on which Lerners operates and our offices are located is the traditional territory of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, the Chippewa, the Attawandaron, the Lūnaapéewak, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Huron Wendat peoples, the Odawa, and Myaamia people. These lands are now home to diverse Indigenous peoples, including the First Nations, the Métis, and the Inuit.

We acknowledge all the treaties that are specific to these areas:

  • The Two Row Wampum Belt Treaty of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy/Silver Covenant Chain
  • The Beaver Hunting Grounds of the Haudenosaunee NANFAN Treaty of 1701;
  • The McKee Treaty of 1790
  • The London Township and Sombra Treaties of 1796
  • The Huron Tract Treaty of 1827 with the Anishinaabeg,
  • The Williams Treaties 1 & 2
  • Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and
  • The Dish with One Spoon Covenant Wampum of the Anishnaabek and Haudenosaunee.

We recognize the enduring presence of Indigenous peoples on this land, their deep connection to it, and their contributions to our communities.

We honour the treaties and agreements that have been made on these territories and strive to be respectful allies in the ongoing process of reconciliation.
As a law firm with offices in London, Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Strathroy, Ontario (Kanadario in Iroquois), we commit to learning about and understanding the history, languages, cultures, and perspectives of Indigenous peoples.

We are dedicated to incorporating Indigenous knowledge and principles of reconciliation into our work and to supporting Indigenous communities in their pursuit of justice and self-determination.
