Lerners Welcomes 2024-2025 Articling Students

We’re proud to announce ten new articling students for our 2024-2025 program. We look forward to mentoring them, offering practical experience, and providing opportunities to discover the areas of law about which they’re most passionate as they advance their careers. London Articling Students
Nur Al Ebeid
Nur (pronounced “Noor”) is a graduate of the JD/MA dual degree at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, and the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. Nur was a Student Caseworker with Community Legal Services Ottawa and a Junior Policy Analyst at the Impact Agency of Canada, on the Indigenous Policy Division. She has also worked as a Teaching Assistant for an introductory human rights course at Carleton University. Nur is fluent in Arabic and is a self-taught Arabic calligrapher. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, and sending handwritten letters to friends!
Marcus Johnson
Marcus is a Western Law graduate with a Software Engineering degree and a Juris Doctorate. He participated in the Western Engineering Competition in 2021 as well as the Hicks Morley Moot in 2022. Marcus worked as an Accounting Assistant at London Regional Children’s Museum as well as a Building Assistant with the City of London. He is fluent in French and enjoys reading, baking, and video/board games!
Luigi Mazi
Luigi is a Law graduate of the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He was a summer student at Lerners. He was a Legal Advisor with The Aberdeen Law Project Pro Bono Clinic and was a Summer Legal Intern with the Renascita Opera Group, in Toronto. Luigi is a Division 1 Varsity Basketball athlete and Captain. He also served as the Treasurer and President of the Aberdeen University Basketball Club! His interests include basketball, soccer, football and playing the guitar.
Megan Peters
Megan graduated from the University of Toronto. She also holds a First Class Honours BA in Psychology from McGill. She has worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Toronto, as well as a Laboratory Coordinator at McGill. Megan served as a Women’s Rights Resources Working Group member and Leader with the International Human Rights Program at the University of Toronto. Megan is an avid runner, and enjoys skiing and baking as well as Russian Literature!
Bassel Sabalbal
Bassel is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and holds a Master of Public Safety and BA, Honours Policing and Criminology from Wilfrid Laurier University. Bassel served as an Infantryman with the Canadian Armed Forces for 9 years and worked as a Military Police Officer in Halifax, for 10 years in Criminal Intelligence, General Investigation and as a Drug Officer. Bassel is fluent in Arabic, is an Advanced open water diver and a rescue diver, is passionate about travel and loves to cook and exercise!
David Zhang
David holds a JD from Western Law and a BA in Honours Business Administration from Ivey Business School. David worked at The World Bank Group in Washington DC in the summer of 2022 as an Insolvency and Debt Resolution Consultant. He was a Staff Editor for the Western Journal of Legal Studies, was a member of the Waterloo Economic Development Advisory Committee and a Research Analyst with the Ivey Value Fund, Ben Graham Centre for Value Investing. David's other past professional work includes venture capital, private equity, and economic development. David is fluent in Mandarin and is a classical pianist, alto and tenor saxophonist and enjoys hiking and photography!
Toronto Articling Students
Jaime McKibbon
Jaime graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School and has a double major in Criminal Justice and Public Policy and Political Science (with distinction), from the University of Guelph. She worked as a summer student at a Toronto law firm 2023, and in 2022-2024 she was a Division Leader and Senior Division Leader at a legal aid clinic at Osgoode. Jaime also worked as a Legal Administrative Assistant for a business law firm in Toronto before law school. Jaime’s extracurricular involvement includes time as a 1L Representative and Director of Events for the Osgoode Criminal Law Society, as well as helping teach a course in legal critical thinking during her undergrad, to name a few. Jaime loves live music, travelling, and spending time at the cottage with family.
Jason Thacker
Jason graduated from Queen’s University, Faculty of Law. He holds a BA in Law from Carleton University, a BA in Philosophy from the University of Ottawa and has a Film Production diploma from Confederation College. His law school moot experience includes being selected for the Queen’s Law Grand Moot and acting as Queen’s team captain for the John H. Jackson International Trade Law Moot Court Competition, where his team competed in the world finals in Geneva, Switzerland. Jason was a summer student at an Ottawa law firm in 2023. He served as an Administrative Consultant and Board Member at Community Clothing Assistance (a United Way Charity), and he was a General Editor for Lakehead Law Journal. Jason also has several years of experience as a Disc Jockey!
Haoran Wang
Haoran is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and has 2 BAs (Economics and International Studies) from the University of California – San Diego. Haoran was a summer law student at a Toronto law firm, and also served as a caseworker at CLASP & KPMG Tax Dispute Clinic. Haoran is an avid mooter, having competed in several moots between fall 2022 and winter 2024. Haoran enjoys travelling and is fluent in Mandarin!
Rachel Dover
Rachel is also a graduate of Osgoode where she served as the Upper Year Director for Osgoode Advocacy Society. She has an honours degree in Global Studies. She spent her summer as a student at an Oakville family law firm in 2023, and as a Legal Intern at a law firm in Tel Aviv in 2022. Rachel was the co-director of events for the Jewish Law Students Association at Osgoode and she has competed in the Lerners Cup moot, the Frozen Open Osgoode Moot and was a judge for the Hawk’s Cup in 2022. Rachel is a self-taught cake decorator and has sold her baked goods through her Instagram account and she enjoys dance as well as painting, which she took up during the pandemic!
